Beth has always been "The Beast" -that's what everyone at school calls her because of her awkward height, facial scars, and thick glasses. Who could love the beast ? Beth only friend is geeky, golden haired Scott. That is until she is selected to be her choir's soprano soloist, and receives the make over of a lifetime. Suddenly, everyone wants a piece of Beth.
Things only get better when her choir travels to Switzerland and Beth meets the mysterious Derek. They have an incredible whirlwind affair that makes Beth realize that for the first time, she can find love.( Back of the Book)
Beth is Ugly Duckling and feels like she is the Beast or so she thinks. Beth has low self esteem issues that date back to when her father left.
Beth has a beautiful singing voice and has been friends with Scott for some time. Scott has been flirting with her before the make over, and a true friend.
Beth goes to Switzerland and meets Derek who reminds her of the Phantom of the Opera with his secrets. Beth falls in love with Derek during the competition.
Once Beth is home, she is still attracted to Scott. Beth became the lovely swan and the Beauty.
This book also dealt with serious issues like genetic disorder or Cystic Fibrosis , which I thought it was great that this book deals with serious issues that kids might be dealing with on a daily basis.
I liked the cast of characters and loved that it was about singing because I did this when I was 6th grade and had a blast.
