Blogging controverseies

Blogging controversies. How do you address them? Do you join the Twitter frenzy? Write a post? Stay on the sidelines and hope they go away?
How do you think we should address plagiarism scandals? Bad author behavior? Negative comments on our blogs?

I usually stay on the sidelines but I will comment on the situation should it be warranted. I do join in the twitter frenzy to find out all the facts before I make an informed decision about what the situation might be. No I don't write posts at all.

I do think that blog that has plagiarism scandal with them, should go away quietly. But I know that isn't the case with The Story Siren who appears can plagiarize , and still get books from Harper Collins ...when at the Book Blogger Con ( Erica)  said that they don't work with plagiarists. Are there different rules for the Young adult over adult, because she still stole someone Else's work ??  She is now listed with Epic Reads which is still part of Harper Collins. How is this being honest ?? Is Integrity not was valuable as it was when I was growing up ?? This is the most that I have talked about the biggest scandal online.

This is the most that I have talked about the big story. I made a choice not to follow her in any way. But there are many places online to find out about this and make your own informed decision.

Bad Author behaviour for me happens over the summer for me. I also see it happening more over at Goodreads. I don't like seeing authors trash book bloggers over their opinion over a book that has been put out for the Reader. If an author trashes a review, then I judge the work over their behaviour, but if it happens many more times. Then I make the choice to not follow or like the author.

I have lucky with not getting to many negative comments, but when I did I felt like I finally made it.

  1. Thanks for posting this. I appreciate you bringing up The Story Siren for this question. I also look into facts or glean as much information as I can before I jump to conclusions.

    1. well glad I could help..I looked at all the data and drew my own conclusions. But the evidence was there in black and white.

  2. It's always important to get all sides of the story, and in the case of The Story Siren, it was obvious that bloggers (at least those I follow) showed their feelings with their unfollow fingers. But it is disappointing that publishers, who should be some of the biggest advocates against plagiarism, just seemed to let the whole thing slide.

We aren't paid to blog, but we should take pride in what we do, and reflect that in our actions, both towards each other and towards authors.

    1. thats what made this a different issue and I want to let know about this incident. They knew what stealing is and that's what pissed me off is the publishers not caring.

  3. I feel that this scandal was treated differently because it wasn't a review or fellow book blogger that was plagiarized. It seemed to allow it to be moved to a grey area.

It still surprises me that there was a question about what was done or her initial denials until more facts were brought out but I think we can all make our own decisions and just not follow.

I also think the personal attacks (from both sides) made people choose sides and allowed her to weather the storm.

    1. I totally get that this was a different blogger , but a blogger non the less who got different treatment from pubs.

I agree about the support helped her whether the storms. But if it was another blogger they would be blacklisted.

    2. I agree with you.

I think because she was a bigger blogger it allowed people to make excuses (it wasn't a review she plagiarized) I don't think it should have mattered but for whatever reason it did.

Every other blogger that this happened to is no longer a blogger.

I'm curious to see what happens to the next blogger.

    3. I am very curious too.

Stealing is stealing whether its content or candy bar. She is blogger in the community.

I need to have good examples for my kids to see, and they know all about this sitation. My kids can tell you about taking someone stuff and the conquences that come from that.

I am very curious too , because this will set the standard in how other bloggers will or won't be treated. I understand that she is sorry , but I as reader didn't ask her to steal content. I am sure that she didn't want all this stress of being the top YA blogger.

As I tell my kids actions have consquences whether good or bad.

  4. How odd that the publishers didn't mind.
