The palace of Stange Girls -- Book Review

The singleton family is on holiday in Blackpool England in 1959. For 7 year old Beth , just out of the hospital means struggling to fill her I-Spy book and avoiding her mothers Ruth's eagle eye supervision . her 16 year old sister Helen has befriended a waitress whose fun loving ways hint at a life beyond Ruth's strict rules. Times are changing , jack is caught between unions and owners whose cost cutting measures threaten his entire way of life. A letter arrives from Crete , a secret reemerges from the rubble of jack's wartime past that could destroy his marriage.( Back of the book)

Comes out September 9,2009-- 13.99

Point of Views of all the members of the singleton family, with flashbacks to certain memories . I liked the story and like learning about all the weaving/ cotton/ fabrics and loom terminology. The chapter where things all changed with in the story was Chapter 11-- Seaside at Night. I liked the I-Spy theme throughout the book.

Jack wants to tell his secret and daughters want to grow up. They have been coming to the same hotel for holiday for the last 17 years. Ruth wants the best things in life. There is a Reading group guide to think more about the story and characters.

I give this book 3 out 5 stars.
