 What kind of books do you read for fun ?? I read young adult novels, anything by Emily Giffin, the occasional "grown-up" novel and memoirs about life in Paris


How did you get into writing ?? I have been a journalist for 15 years and writing on deadline is a natural for me

What inspired you do a book ?? I wanted to explore what it takes to do the right thing and take a stand for yourself and others

Do you have another job besides writing ?? Yes, I am a reporter covering digital media and I program conferences about digital marketing

Chocolate or Vanilla ?? ONLY chocolate

Ereader or Book ?? I am ecumenical! I have both and love both

Barnes Noble or Indie book store ?? As an author, I LOVE all bookstores

Best experience with a fan ?? A teenage girl recently told me about some tough stuff she is going through. I feel grateful she opened up to me. I shared some photos of my kids and my dog and we chatted about pets and life and how "it gets better." I hope to stay in touch with her and be a friend as she needs one.

Was it hard to get into the publishing world ?? Yes. This business requires tenacity. I wrote three unpublished novels and a non-fiction proposal before The Mockingbirds sold.

Whats on your night stand ?? The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman, Mostly Good Girls by Leila Sales and The Hate List by Jennifer Brown

Favorite color ?? Dark blue

What do watch on TV ?? I watch 30 Rock and Parks and Rec

Writing and kids ? How do you do it ? - Lots of caffeine! I also write daily so writing is part of my routine, not something I feel like I HAVE to fit in. I walk my dog every day, work every day, spend time with my kids and write every day.

What are you working on right now ?? Another contemporary young adult novel

Bloggers and books ?? Do they help with book buzz ?? Yes. Bloggers do a tremendous job with word of mouth

Music playlists ?? whats on yours ?? More than Words by Extreme, Colorblind by Counting Crows, Librarian my Morning Jacket and many others!

Does being in California or Northern California affect the story ?? The Mockingbirds is set in Providence Rhode Island and the novel I am currently writing takes place in New York City. I do have a novel I plan to write that will be set in Southern California.

I just finished reading your book and I loved it. I was different from other books out there, and dealt with such a great topic of rape and in school. Thank you so much for such a wonderful story and so glad to have met you. I can't wait to read your next book. My review is coming but I enjoyed it.
