Do you prefer writing stand-alone
novels? I do
prefer thinking of a story as a single unit, so yes, I think I’m predisposed to
write stand-alone books. I like to feel that, while life goes on after the book,
the story itself is complete. Also, for me, my favorite part of writing is
discovering the characters, so I suppose the excitement of writing a
stand-alone is a little bit selfish for me as well. That said, I'm currently
writing a sequel to my first novel, Fracture,
but from a different character's perspective –and with a different story at the
heart of it. It's given me a chance to discover the same characters again, but
also to see different facets of them, and I've really enjoyed that process as
well.
What makes this book different from
other books in the market? It's a psychological thriller about a girl who commits a crime
she can't be charged for, and is then framed for one she doesn't commit. It
also has a friendship as the central relationship in the book. And there is
some “other” questionable element to it as well—something the narrator isn’t
sure is real or not.
Was writing this book easier than
Fracture ?? No, I
think it was harder (though I tend to always think whichever project I’m working
on is the hardest!) I think some of this had to do with the fact that there
were other outside voices in my head when I was writing Hysteria. Fracture hadn't
come out yet, and this book is a bit darker, so that was definitely on my mind.
Also, there are elements that were more difficult to keep ahold of in this
story, and a past and present story line that converge about halfway through. Then
again, I think it was more fun for me to write!
Chocolate or Vanilla ? Vanilla.
What's currently on your nightstand
? I'm
currently in the middle of CODE NAME VERITY, which everyone kept telling me to
read, and they were so very, very right. After that, I've got THE ART OF RACING
IN THE RAIN and THE SCORPIO RACES.
What movies do you like to watch in
your spare time ? Oh, I
LOVE movies. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I'll pretty much see any movie
(hmm, maybe goes along with preferring stand-alones to series, now that I think
about it). My favorites from 2012 were LIFE OF PI and LES MIS. But if we're
talking of all time… then THE USUAL SUSPECTS. I like to be surprised.
Who is your
swoon-worthy character right now ? From books I’ve recently read? I’m sure I’m
not alone when I say that my favorite male character of 2012 was Augustus
Waters.
Thanks so much for being her Miranda
Here is my Review : This was a good mystery , and loved trying to figure out whether it all in her head or if she was dealing with ghosts. She hurt someone very dear to her and doesn't remember what happened. She to a school called Monroe and sees an old friend.
She does talk some sleeping pills to help cope with the loss of the death. She is slowly remembering things. There are some mean girls on campus. She also misses her best friend Colleen. She has some issues at school and secrets are its currency. She ends up solving two mysteries. This book ending was left open ended. It could go either way with her choices, and that's all I am saying about this book. I was talking with my brother about this book and how awesome it was. I love this cover too.

ReplyDeleteLove the interview! I think it's interesting how the author thinks her current project is always the hardest to write. =)
