Seventeen year old actress Kelley Winslow always thought faeries were just something from childhood stories. Then she meets Sonny Flannery. He's a changeling -- a mortal takes as an infant raised among the Faerie -- and within short order he's turned Kelley's heart inside out and her life upside down. For Kelley's beloved Central Park isn't just a park-- its a gateway between her ordinary city and the Faerie's dangerous , bewitching Otherworld( Back of the book).
Wondrous Strange is the story of Kelley who is a play " Midsummer's Night Dream " by William Shakespeare. Kelley is the understudy of the role of Titania , and she gets the role because something happened to the regular actress.
Kelley life seems to mirroring the play that she is in. She meets Sonney who is a Janus guard and works for the King of the Fairies (Winter King). Kelley is drawn to Central Park, and brings home a Kelpie( Lucky). Her room mate Tyff happens to be a lady in waiting for the Summer Queen.
Sonney fends off a hell hound , and there is an attraction between Kelley and Sonney. Kelley has a little spark. There were many coincidences and things kept falling into place with Kelley and Sonney.
Kelley is finding out the truth about her real parentage and that she is faerie princess. She has always worn a 4 leaf clover necklace. Sonney's dad is Puck ( Bob) ..and his history plays a part in Kelley's history.
Kelley finally meets her dad( Winter King) , and she really has no opinion of him at all.
Sonney takes Kelley the carousel and they take it for a ride and she is able to see her history and of the Wild Hunt.
Sonney takes Kelley on a date to" Tavern on the Green " , which is sanctuary between worlds. She takes off the necklace and flies and see her home for the first time. Kelley gives up her powers to her dad but still has the powers from her mom( Queen Mabh and Autumn ruler). Sonney gets on the kelpie and that starts the hunt. Kelley then knocks Sonney off the kelpie and is able to save them both and also a faerie princess.
Sonney loves Kelley and tells her when they read lines , and they both mean it. Sonney isn't able to see Kelley anymore and needs to bring Queen Mabh back to the Otherworld.
At Opening night of the play Aunt Em, Tyff and Sonney are there to see the play.
I loved that this book had faeries , Shakespeare and I loved the cover of this book.
Kelley realization was okay , but there wasn't too much denial or whining like with other characters. I only remember her mentioning the denial on pg. 289--"I'm in total denial and pretty sure I'm dreaming."
This book wasn't as Dark as Melissa Marr -- "Wicked Lovely "or not as light as with Aprilynne Pike -- " Wings". This book seemed to me middle ground with a touch of acting and everything made sense with the locations. I would let my daughter read this book if she wanted too.
I will be reading the next book in the series.

I've seen so many others read this one. I love the cover! I've been a little out of the teen book loop, haven't picked a good one up in awhile.
