Her brother is John Henry and he is brilliant boy. She is unable to participate in the Gate ( Gifted and Talented Education) program at school because she has a math disability.

At school she meets Amanda who is the girl wonder , and she has the pink hair on the cover. She wants to become friends with her. Charlotte's parents marriage seems to falling apart. Charlotte tries out for the debate team, and is very excited that Neal is on the team too. While befriending  Amanda, she learns that there is history between Neal and Amanda.
