Get to Know Book Blogger -- Triangles in Books

Triangles with characters ? Thoughts
If we're talking love triangles, I love them. The more tension the better.--The Book Vixen

It gets boring after awhile, if the plot is good than so what but I think the triangle thing is being overdone- kind of like when they play a great song and wear it out to the point of ear pain!!--Tinas Book Reviews

Oh I like a good love triangle just as long as the guy I am rooting for wins :) I can be a bit of a poor sport when things go south for my fictional men.--So Rather Reading

NO. Please no more!! I didn't mind them so much a few years ago but it is the most overused plot device out there right now. Most of them are "lust" triangles masquerading as love triangles and I end up disappointed in everyone involved.--FWIW

I like Love triangles, but only if they're done well and seem necessary to the story. An arbitrary love triangle can ruin a book for me.--Reading with Tequlia

Triangles with characters – It can be extremely entertaining and frustrating at the same time. A good triangle always comes with twists and turns, making the story even more interesting, drawing you back in over and over again. I also love the contrast between the characters in the triangles in pretty much every trilogy I’ve read. The whole good boy, bad boy + girl triangle… I usually cheer on the bad boy. Lol-- Bound By Books

I to get tired of the triangle and rooting for the teams. I noticed that it got really bad with Hunger Games Peeta and Gale. It was also bad between Edward and Jacob til the last book. I understand the author wants to create tension and drive the story on to the next level. But as a reader I get tired of it. I know that there is always a bad boy and good boy.

Stay tuned for the next Question

  1. Good point Julie. I think these triangles become more like a sport where you have to pick teams an since most are from trilogies they reach fever pitch after three years. It become more stressful than fun.
There are a few good ones out there. But personally I'm looking for a different way of causing tension.

  2. It all depends on how well it's done but when I see one coming lately I tend to be skeptical because everyone is using them! But I love a good one!

I don't mind love-triangle (that are ACTUAL love-triangles and not just LUST-triangles included for sexual tension purposes) as long as they're done well, because then they don't even jump out to me as annoying plot devices and are just another part of the story.

These days, though, most of the so-called "love-triangles" are just plain PAINFUL ... off the top of my head I'm thinking of Nightshade and Personal Demons ... and I've got to the point where I avoid 95% of books with love-triangles, because I know they're mostly going to be nothing more than cookie-cutter lust-triangles.

The real gem is actually finding a love-triangle that's done well. It's like searching for Nessie in the Loch, LOL.
