Jane Porter Interview -- The Good Woman

Hello Jane and welcome to My 5 Monkeys. Its great to have you here and talk about your newest book. I do enjoy your stories.

  1. What is your favorite small town?

My hometown of Visalia, California!  Everyone there is always so good to me, and so glad to see me.  But I have to confess, I am in love with my new home in San Clemente, California.  It’s a great little beach town with a laidback surf vibe that’s perfect for us.  No fuss living here and it’s almost like Visalia, except it’s on the sea.

2. How tough is it to raise three boys?

I don’t think it’s particularly tough raising boys…it’s just a lot of energy.  Kind of like herding cats.  But I like boys more than cats….and I love boys.  My favorite books growing up were Louisa May Alcott’s Little Men and Jo’s Boys so I pretty much have the life—and family—I always wanted.
3. Chocolate or Vanilla?

Chocolate with something else, if I can.  Marshmallows and caramel would be perfect.  Oh, and peanut butter.  Love chocolate and peanut butter, too.

4. What are you reading now?

Just started Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness.  So happy to be settling down with this book now!

5. What is your new series about?

The series is about a large, close, Irish-American family in San Francisco with four strong, spirited sisters who are all adults and confronted by change.  The family is headed up by a devoted father, who is a 5th generation SF firefighter.  I love writing connected stories, particularly stories about family and community.

6. What makes a good woman?

A good woman is one that tries to do her best.  She’s also someone that cares.

7. Who is your favorite Brennan sister?
I don’t have a favorite.  I love them all.  I’m just sad that I’ve written 2 of the 3 books and am currently starting the final novel in the trilogy because I will really miss this family when I’m done.

8. What do when you aren’t writing?

I read, travel, and go to my kids’ events.  I love movies, too, but haven’t been able to make it to a movie theatre since last June due to our move from Greater Seattle to Southern California.

Thanks for being here Jane. Good Luck with the book , and I can't wait to read it.
