ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Deborah Harkness is the number one New York Times bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night. A history professor at the University of Southern California, Harkness has received Fulbright, Guggenheim, and National Humanities Center fellowships. Her publications include works on the history of science, magic, and alchemy.  Her most recent scholarly book is The Jewel House: Elizabethan London and the Scientific Revolution.  She lives in Los Angeles

The Learning Exchange --Review & Giveaway ( Sacramento area )

 I was offered the chance to take a class through The Learning Exchange  for an Honest review. I have always wanted to take a class from there but never had the time. It was tough to narrow down the choices and time frame for me. There were so many choices to choose from , but I made my choice.

 I choose a class on Tamales . I learned a lot of History about the Tamale while I was in the class. The class took place at Le Cordon Bleu. I admit I love to watch Top Chef, and this kitchen where the class took place was just like it.

Class started at 10 am and went to 1pm. I was waived my fee , for doing this review, but they still had to call someone. There was 1 1/2 hours of lecture and demonstration before we were even able to start making the food. There was also some issues with the video camera not working , which made the lecture last a bit longer. During this time , the Chef made some salsa, and the seafood was cooking already.

 We made a Seafood Tamales, Chilorio, and Fruit Tamales. I also met a lovely couple who spend time together in these classes. They mentioned the Bread class while we were working on the Tamales. My partner was librarian . There were also some other Chefs around to help while we putting the Tamales together.

 The Class did go over time because of the time to steam the Tamales.

Overall I might take a different class through the exchange, maybe a chocolate or Baking class. I would like less lecture and more time to work and prepare the  dishes. I loved that I got a new apron. The food got mixed reviews from my kids. The seafood was dish was okay , but I LOVED the Fruit Tamales the best.

Eat Pray and Love & McCormicks & Schmicks Giveaway

I haven't read Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert , but I have eaten at McCormicks & Schmicks with DH for our anniversary Dinner . The food and service was amazing in my town. That reminds me that I need to go there again with DH for another date night.

Greek double date review/giveaway

Major oops. When Casey Cartwright's brother begs her to be nerdy Dale Kettlewell's date to the sure-to-be-boring Honors Engineering Awards, Casey says yes. Even though Dale is totally not her type… and might have a crush on her. Ugh. But it's a nice thing to do, and Casey's always been the "nice" girl.

But now, that night conflicts with the biggest event of the semester, the All-Greek formal. Casey already has a date lined up: hot transfer student Rob Howell. He's her plan to get over her sexy-slacker ex, Cappie. And even nice girls get to be bad sometimes, right?( Goodreads.com )

This book reminded me of the TV show and I only watched it a couple times on ABC Family.

Casey has tough time in college when it comes to dating and being in sorority. She plans a night accidentally with 2 guys and from there comedy ensures with all the Greek members.

I liked Casey with Cappie but they also have an history of dating and she is ready to move on , but Cappie still wants to be with Casey.

Casey lives in this state of romantic agony because you won't commit , for reasons that have never satisfied her , and you don't have half the excuses Dale has.

Is the lesson here that boys will be boys , no matter what their age ?

Greek is one of ABC Family longest running shows and has been in the TOP 5 and will be returning for a 4th season.
