Hex Hall- BWB Review

Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shape shifters.

By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tag along ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.( goodreads.com)

Okay this reminded me of The Craft but some things were different. Her the popular pretty girls were the witch's and not the outcasts like the movie.  Sophie finds out that a love spell gone wrong sends her to reform school for mythical creatures. Her room mate is a vampire and into all things pink. The popular girls want her in the coven , but she doesn't want too. She is attracted to Archer Cross but flip flops through out the book on her feeling for him. Sophie has never met her dad at all and this play a part into her feelings through the book. I didn't care whether or not she got with him at all.

This actually felt like a school with rules and loved  Vandy the teacher, because she didn't put up with crap from the students and I do think that she will be seen in the next book. But on the same hand with being a reform school and no parents around peeve again except in the beginning and end. What's wrong with seeing the Parents in book ??

I did love the friendship between Sophie and her room mate. I did enjoy meeting Cal( grounds keeper) and Beth( werewolf). I do think something might happen between Cal and Sophie in the next book. This book reminded of chick version of Harry Potter but this school had fairies, werewolves, and warlocks. Friendship is a 2 way street and I found it interesting with Elodie, and Annie . I liked Cal a lot more than Archer..he may be the bad boy but she flip flopped , her emotions were all over the place.

This book did have witty lines and this is book that I would share with my girl friends who do read. I would let my daughter read this book because there is only mention of 1 making out scene.

This is the first book of the series and I think the author did some great groundwork in laying the scene for the next book and what Sophie plans to do ,so that she can't hurt anyone.

This book reminded me of The Craft as you can see from the pic and might read the next book.

Book Review=3
BWB= 3

I bought this book and this is my Honest review

A1. No I don't see any reason to abandon a child at all whether you are magical at all. I think abandoning a child is wrong and I have seen it my DH life, when he brings up his dad walking out on them when he was 7. I think that this dad has his reasons but I don't like them.
A2. Yes -- Firespell, Harry Potter, Fallen..to name a few series
A3. I found it an interesting take on the white/dark witches..reminded me of Beautiful Creatures with that aspect. I found it interesting that they didn't care about Humans as opposed to those with powers.
A4. Might read it ..to see what happens and to find out who she is betrothed too..I hope its ......but this book will library or paperback find.

  2. I never thought to connect HH to The Craft, since I watched that movie forever ago, but now that you mention it, you are so right!

    I was also glad to see Sophie be loyal to Jenna, even if she had a few doubts.

    Overall, fun book! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
