Graf is an American Vampire , and on his way to party. He stops in a small town called Penance. He saves Jessa from the monster known as it. He is the first person to enter the town in 5 years.
He is unable to leave the town at all, and ends up in Jessa Basement. She has no idea whether to trust him or not. Jessa is the ex of Derek who is sleeping with her while married to Becky. Do you have all that ??
There is a lot of small town mentality in some situations . I was talking with my friend Karen about this book, and she mentioned that it was like a Stephen king novel. I would concur with her that it did have that feeling of Stephen kings novels, and I love grew up reading and loving his novels. But there was something missing from this novel , and I can't put my finger on it. I finished the novel to see what happens with the characters. I think that it was trying for a stephen king paranormal mystery and failed.
There wasn't any romance til about 75% of the book, and that was okay. I was actually glad to see some sort of romance between anyone. I read another book by this author ( Queene of Light) , and its was an okay book for me.
I truly didn't care if they lived or survived while dealing with the Monster. Something was missing for me, and I don't know if it was the pacing, the characters or reading on the kindle.

If it is anything like Queene of Light the characters are too --- well emotionless. You can't really care for them because Armintrout doesn't let you close to them.
ReplyDeleteThe characters are pretty unlikeable. It was ok for a vampire/ Stephen King-ish book but I agree with most of what you had to say.
ReplyDeleteI liked the concept more than the delivery
Too bad this didn't work for you. It's always frustrating when something feels like it's missing from a book.
