Get to Know Book Bloggers --Pet Peeves with Books

Misleading book blurbs; love scenes with characters that have no chemistry; 'I Love Yous' that happen way too soon. --The Book Vixen

Lately the love triangle and that crap about instant love and why do characters bite their lips until they taste blood- gross and OUCH!--Tinas Book Reviews

I can't handle if a book is dirty, has bent pages or if the spine is broken. I buy two copies of my favorite books, one to lend to people and the other is ALL mine!--So Rather Reading

Cliffhangers are a big no no for me. Hate them. --FWIW

Long books that don't need the length to tell the story. And mysteries that forget about the crime right after it happens and don't return to it until the last couple chapters. Like when the characters run off and a bunch of super awesome, but totally unrelated things and somehow manage to "solve" the case without any actual effort. Oh, and completely average female main characters who have to fight men off with a stick.--Reading with Tequila

My only pet peeve with books… is the good, great and amazing ones when I turn the last page and it’s over. Lol Oh and the long wait between books when reading a series or trilogy. I’m sure others feel my pain with this. Wait! I just thought of something else that’s been a hot topic lately. Changing up a books cover after the first one or more books have been released makes it hard for all in a trilogy or series to match. I think I need to get over this last pet peeve quick.-- Bound By Books

I dislike that book covers change during a series. I like them to match too. Another one is triangles in a series. I don't want to always have to choose a side. I don't want there discussions of who a charachter should be with ie Katniss or Calla or Merit. I also don't understand why its always the paranormals that have the parents absent during the story.

  1. I agree with everyone's peeves.
Ya know how I feel about the triangles - I decided not to rant on about that one again...lol
I'm with you Julie - I'm so sick of the Team thing. I just want to relax a little while I'm reading a book especially when nothing is resolved for several YEARS.

OMG I totally agree about the changing of book covers halfway through the series!!! I hate it when my books don't match, so I won't buy the rest of the series if the books suddenly look different. The worst, though, is when they look the same ... but are suddenly different sizes ... o_o This happened with my Dead-Tossed Waves, which matches The Forest of Hands and Teeth, but is BIGGER!!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!! So annoying. Oh, oh, oh, then the other day I bought the first 8 Sookie Stackhouse books IN A SET, so - like - you'd think they'd match, since they're in a box set, but there's 3 different styles of books in there ... *growl*

    Also, cliffhangers drive me batty.

  3. I think cliffhangers are brilliant, but they are annoying and makes us really want to jump off a cliff. :)

  4. I am not alone, yaaaay. I hate dirty books also, I have received books from people and not read them even after cleaning them up. I also won't lend anymore, only 2 friends have lived up to that bonus :-)

  5. Interesting peeves. I'm a huge books person, my peeve is similar to the covers aspect, but it's not a series, it's when I have a bunch of books, and then they all change their covers to mesh and blend and whatnot, and I can't tell them apart! That stinks!

I agree with you Julie, on covers being changed in the middle of a series. I like my covers to match too.

I thought of a new pet peeve I have. I cannot stand it when a character agrees to a favor without any stipulations set in place. I just read a book where that happened and I wanted to smack that character right through the pages!! Never make a blind deal like that!!

  9. oh i forgot - i hate books with too many characters and describing the character from head to toe (even those minor characters!) i hope the authors would realize that adding too many characters will definitely kill the story.

  10. I agree with Tinas Book Reviews. I hate love triangles. I think 99% of the time they are an unnecessary and a stupid plot device created just to annoy and to make the reader feel anxious. The worst part is that this always happens in YA and I don’t get it, do authors consider YA readers to be so stupid that if they don’t follow the “Twilight” recipe people won’t read the book? Because you can see who will end up with whom almost from the beginning, so all the angst generated is worthless. This is one of the reasons I’m weary of YA books.

This was my rant for the day. By the way, you guys have some crazy beautiful looking blogs! Keep it up!
