5 Questions with Ellen Conner & Giveaway

Nightfall (A Dark Age Dawning Novel)1. Was it hard to co write a book series ??

There are certainly challenges. Good communication is paramount and it's important to compromise. Sometimes you disagree on the way things should go and we've learned to present logical arguments for why things should resolve in this fashion. It helps, though, having someone who is as invested in the project as you are because you don't feel like you're alone in your work. It's cool having another mind for brainstorming and it keeps you accountable in terms of work, because your partner can't move on until you complete your portion. It's different than writing alone, and you have less control, but ultimately, it was an experience not to be missed.

2. What weapon is the choice one to kill the destroyers or bad guys??

In the first two books, guns play a big role. By the last book, people have adapted more to the Change, and can actually use magic to kill. Which is chilling, I think. Well, I have chills, anyway.

3. I saw that you like BSG. Humans or Cylons ?? Who is your favorite character from the series ??

Humans, definitely. I found the Cylons scary; they were certainly compelling villains! My favorite character? That's an easy one. It has to be Helo. He's so steadfast and loyal. I mean, he fell in love with Boomer, not knowing she was a Cylon, and when he found out? It didn't change his feelings. She was still the person he loved, even if she wasn't human. I find that irresistible. When I think of Helo, I hear I'LL STAND BY YOU by the Pretenders in my head, and then I get all emotional.

We are big BSG fans of the show. It was such a great show and I loved Lee and his relationship with his dad. I also loved Kara too. The cylons were also awesome too . I also had a soft spot for the president.

4. What makes this world different from other books out there ??

There aren't many paranormal apocalyptic romances. In fact, I can only think of one other author who's dipped a toe into these waters, so our project is certainly fresh. The other aspect of why our books are different is that we've devised a magical apocalypse instead of technology or bio-weapons or pollution or the atomic bomb. Finally, people should buy Nightfall if they're looking for a different sort of romance. It's dark, gritty, and intense with lots of action and elements of horror and fantasy in addition to the relationships, smoking hot sex, and emotional resonance.

5. I see that you like strong female characters , Does it make it easier or harder to write them ??

I would find it impossible to write a woman who cringes, who doesn't get back up and dust herself off after she's been kicked in the teeth, figuratively or literally. So for me, strong women aren't hard. They're all I know. My female friends are like this; they're fierce, tough, brave, wonderfully resilient, and while they may have down moments, they don't stay there.

What is something that you need to survive in post apocalyptic world ?

  1. I just read an awesome review for Nightfall so I can't wait to read it!

I'm sure there is a really great answer for that question but I'm going to say my husband. He would think of everything and make sure I survived. And keep me sane. I would be dead in 5 seconds flat without him.

  2. As in today's business world, you would need connections to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Except in the PA world...its what you know AND who you know that is important. If you are a loner, you have to depend on only yourself to survive..that is a ton of work and if you lack knowlege about a certain terrain, location, etc that could prove fatal. Having allies is key :)

  4. Thanks so much! I would say that you need common sense more than anything to survive in an apocalyptic world - that, and a good ability to read people :)

  5. That's a tough one - I am guessing I get to bring a few things...my family, my dogs, my books. What more could you need.

  6. I'd say a great weapon, because besides protection, it would be useful for obtaining food. It would help to have companions as well, so you could work together and have someone to watch your back.

  7. Well, if the apocalypse messes with technology/electricity, then I would need all my print books. And water. Possibly beef jerky.

  8. I'd say the absolute, absolute necessities would be food and clean water. Without those, all the weapons in the world would not save you!
    Great question and great interview!!

  10. Hmm, I think I would need rope, or a chain. As I don't think we have guns near by to keep handy, so I can use the chain as a weapon and to help me with other things as well. Or even rope. I can use it to hunt and protect me. :)

Great interview. With the authors. I wonder if their writing styles are similar if that might have been a hurtle in writing together or not.

  11. Besides food and water, I would definitely want some sort of weapon to defend myself and hunt with.
