Men & Dogs -- Book Review

When Hannah Legare was eleven , her father went on a fishing trip in Charleston Harbor and never came back. And while most of the town accepted Buzz's disappearance , Hannah remained steadfastly convinced of his imminent return. More than twenty years later, Hannah's new life in San Francisco is unraveling. Her marriage is on the rocks; her business is bankrupt. After a disastrous attempt to win back her husband, she is shipped to her mother's home to " rest up" and she is once again sucked into the mystery of her missing father. ( Back of the book)

I have read her previous book of Girls in Trucks and it was okay for me.

I love her covers of her books, they visually mean something and have to do with the book topics.

There were 2 Point of Views of Palmer, and Hannah. Palmer is Hannah gay brother.

I loved the random thoughts in this book. I loved the chapter titles . Palmer and Hannah were both remembering times when they were younger and how it made them to be the people they are today. This book is about family relationships or lack of them.

Hannah is trying to come to terms with her dad's disappearance and with her marriage falling apart. When she comes home, her old boy friend is a minister and his wife works for Palmer..

This book takes place over 1 month and the changes that Hannah faces while at home.

Now & Then-- Book Review

Anne O'Shea has failed at marriage, shed her job at the law firm, and she is trying to recreate herself when she and her recalcitrant nephew are summoned to the past in a manner that nearly destroys them. Her twenty first century skills pare as she struggles to find her nephew in nineteenth century Ireland.( Back of the book)

This was chick lit and some mystery. This was a light book. I did enjoy the book and enjoyed the characters and time time travel. Anne even mentions Outlander...

Anne had the struggles , while her nephew had the easy life in Ireland. This book was about families, and the choices we make whether bad or good. Loved the romance in the book too.

Magic Under the Glass-- Book Review

Nimira is a music hall girl used for dancing for pennies. So when a wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to sing accompaniment to a mysterious piano playing automation, Nimera believes it will be the start of a better life. ( Back of the book)
I guess there was come controversy over this cover-- I can see why there was a problem with it. This isn't who I pictured on the cover and nothing like the descriptions. I had pictured someone Indian not this model.
Nim is a dancer and works and sings for Hollin a rich Gentleman. Nim works with the automation and slowly falls in love with him over 3 weeks time. Hollin and his wife are also prisoners ...which didn't make sense. Nim hardly freaked out at all.
This was a fast read for me. Sad to say this book didn't live up to the hype that I heard online about ...Glad that I'm passing the book on.
I would let my daughter read this book. Loved the time period, romance. Sounds like a series to me.
