Backseat Saints-- Book review

Rose Mae Lolley is a fierce and dirty girl, long-suppressed under flowery skirts and bow-trimmed ballet flats. As "Mrs. Ro Grandee" she's trapped in a marriage that's thick with love and sick with abuse. Her true self has been bound in the chains of marital bliss in rural Texas, letting "Ro" make eggs, iron shirts, and take her punches. She seems doomed to spend the rest of her life battered outside by her husband and inside by her former self, until fate throws her in the path of an airport gypsy---one who shares her past and knows her future. The tarot cards foretell that Rose's beautiful, abusive husband is going to kill her. Unless she kills him first. ( goodreads.com)

This is my first time reading this author and I had a tough time getting into the book. But once I got past the 100 pages it started getting much better and could understand what was happening.

Rose is telling the story and we see many of her memories through out the book , and it puts us into the mind of someone who has been abused through most her life..whether verbal, sexual , abusive.
This books takes place in 3 parts

I did like the gypsy that shows her 3 cards about her life. Her past, present, and future. Ro works at the family gun shop along with her husband. She is married to Thom , and he has tried to kill her many times on accident. Thom almost killed her after asking his father for a raise, and he would like to have kids, but Rose doesn't want kids in that enviroment.

Rose talks to both of her parents to make peace with her choices in her life. I loved Parker and what drew me to this book was this cover.

Silent Scream--Book Review

Four college students believed they were making a statement. They were activists, fighting to preserve the environment by burning down a new apartment complex. But they didn't realize that someone was watching. A blackmailer hides in plain sight, using people's secrets for personal gain, and when this criminal sets his sights on the four young arsonists, he begins his most deadly game yet.
Firefighter David Hunter is devastated when he's too late to save a teenage girl from a Minneapolis fire. Authorities soon discover that it was a case of arson and homicide detective Olivia Sutherland and her partner Kane are assigned to the case. David and Olivia shared a night of passion some time ago, and sparks fly when they are drawn to one another again. But just as they begin to revisit that fateful night and address the events that tore them apart, David and Olivia are forced to pursue the blackmailer, whose horrific plans threaten to destroy those closest to them.( Goodreads.com)

I love her books, they are smart and sexy romance mysteries. Her universe has many of the characters from other books in her books.

Two people unlucky in love but working hard at their job find love while trying to track a killer. It was an interesting topic with arson , and the enviroment.

I guess the masses have been asking for a David Hunter book , because he lost his love Dana to Ethan and there were in a different book. Olivia has also been other books but this time she gets the guy, so to speak. I liked that they had known each other a certain time period and it was time that they finally got together.

Karen's book remind me of Iris Johanson with all the danger, and mystery ..but the difference I see is that there are more characters in her universe. I like that so many of the characters from past book connect to those in books now.

Book Review= 4

This book was so good with characters, plot, and romance, and mystery that I went to my local library and checked more books out by her. I even checked her website and got the information about her past book and characters. I even sent her a letter asking to maybe do a book on some minor characters like Brie or Paige..I would love to know the history between Brie/Barlow and Paige needs to find a man.

Thanks to Grand Central for the book and this is my Honest review. This book comes out in June 2010.

Fever Dream-- Book review

At the old family manse in Louisiana, Special Agent Pendergast is putting to rest long-ignored possessions reminiscent of his wife Helen's tragic death, only to make a stunning-and dreadful-discovery. Helen had been mauled by an unusually large and vicious lion while they were big game hunting in Africa. But now, Pendergast learns that her rifle-her only protection from the beast-had been deliberately loaded with blanks. Who could have wanted Helen dead...and why?
With Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta's assistance, Pendergast embarks on a quest to uncover the mystery of his wife's murder. It is a journey that sends him deep into her past where he learns much that Helen herself had wished to keep hidden. Helen Pendergast had nursed a secret obsession with the famed naturalist-painter John James Audubon, in particular a long-lost painting of his known as the Black Frame.

As Pendergast probes more deeply into the riddle-the answer to which is revealed in a night of shocking violence, deep in the Louisiana bayou-he finds himself faced with an even greater question: who was the woman he married? ( Good reads.com)

This was a another aspect to Pendergast and learning more about the proper FBI agent who lost his wife. There was also another story about his ward and a mental institution.

This book did keep me on my toes on wondering all these thing about his wife Helen...Did he really know her at all ? They had only been married for 2 years before she was killed in Africa.

It was great to see the Detective and his girl friend who is also a cop trying to solve the mystery with Pendergast..made me wonder even about this FBI agent who seems to have some weird hobbies. The book did end suddenly so there has to be another book , because  I want to find out more about Pendergast/Vinnie.

Innocent-- Book Review

The sequel to the genre-defining, landmark bestseller Presumed Innocent, INNOCENT continues the story of Rusty Sabich and Tommy Molto who are, once again, twenty years later, pitted against each other inariveting psychological match after the mysterious death of Rusty's wifeOkay ..I have never read this author and only seen the movie of Presumed Innocent  with Harrison Ford , and never read the book , but now I want too. This book catches the reader up to what happened in the previous book so thats good for the reader.

This book has mutiple POV and there is a timeline showing the important information. Its clearly defined who is speaking and their reasoning on why they do their actions.

First Line: A man is sitting on a bed. He is my Father.

Tommy, Rusty, Nat , and Anna are the main characters speaking in the chapters. Everyone has a secret . There is some court room drama but its easy to understand what's happening.

This is the follow up to Presumed Innocent and this story takes place 20 years later. This book has twists and turns and the more I got into the book, I wanted to see what happens with Rusty , Tommy , and Nat. It does bring up some serious issues like mental illness and affairs and what happens when you are a judge and there is alot a family interaction. There is also a lot of court room drama and ..its easy to understand all thats happening. I do hope that this is turned into a movie too.

I can't put into words how good this book was and kept me on my toes . Its a good read and recommend it to all my fellow friends who love a good mystery.

Deliver us from Evil-- Book Review

Evan Waller is a monster . He has built a fortune from his willingness to buy and sell anything..and anyone. In search of new opportunities, Waller has just begun a new business venture: one that could lead to millions of deaths all over the globe.

On Waller's is Shaw , the mysterious operative from THE Whole Truth , who must prevent Waller from closing the latest deal.Shaw's one chance to bring him down will come in the most unlikely place of places: a serene, bucolic village of Provenance.( Back of the Book)

I was so excited to see that Shaw was back in another book. He reminds me of Jack Bauer , and also with the romance aspect of his character.

Shaw is still mysterious as ever and working for a group that has alot of money and able to get rid of former Nazi's. I enjoyed seeing the Point of View of Waller and how he became the person who did so much brutal killings.

This book has action, romance, mystery, and espionage. I wanted to see what happens next in the story with Shaw.

Detective Lindsay Boxer chases a Jewel thief, a murderous movie star, and killer with a vendetta against women and children. ( Back of the book)
The women's murder club is back again.
Yuki- Lawyer
Cindy - Reporter
Claire- Medical Examiner
Marcus Dowling kills his wife , and Hello Kitty takes the jewelry. Hello Kitty is Sarah and teacher . Cindy and Rich are dating still.
Sarah and Heidi are both married but sleeping with each other and they are teachers. Heidi's husband Pete plays a role in the book too.
Lindsay and Rich have some unresolved feelings toward each other, but they haven't acted on them yet. They are cop partners but they seem to want to be more at times.
Lindsay is excited to getting married to Joe who works for Homeland Security. Lindsay future is up in the air.

How Clarrisa Burden Learned to Fly-- Book Review

This is the story of one woman who life until now has seemed fairly normal. She is thirty something , married , and goes about her daily routine as a writer. .However , it is soon discovered that Clarissa's life has been burdened by ghosts and indifferent husband-- and like a butterfly in a chrysalis , she is poised on the precipice of change.( Back of the book)

I loved the Cover

This book takes place over 1 day..

There are no chapter breaks and this made the book drag even more and I understand why chapter titles

Clarissa was thinking random thoughts through out the day.

She is trying to write another novel, has an interview, has ghosts living in her house which seem to influence her at time.

There were also angels around the house. They do play a part in the book.

This book is different, and it was difficult for me to read because of the talks of killing her husband , and randomness , and no chapter titles.

I had to read something different to make it though this book. You Might like it but this book wasn't for me.

Invisible Boy-- Book Review

The smart -mouthed but sensitive runaway socialite Madeline Dare is shocked when she discovers the skeleton of a brutalized three year old boy in her own family's weed ridden cemetery outside Manhattan. Determined to see that justice is served , Madeline finds herself examining her own troubled personal history , and the sometimes hidden , sometimes all to public , class and racial warfare penetrating every level of society in the savage streets of New York City during the early 1990's.( Back of the book)

This was a good mystery and loved the time period 1990. It me thinking of when I was during that time frame.

Maddie Dare finds a skull in her family cemetery and wants to have justice done. She is married to Dean and works for a book catalog company. Maddie becomes friends with cop and does all that she can do bring justice to the little boy.

Maddie mom becomes engaged and married for the 4th time and she finds out family secrets from her sister and she has some too.

This is my first time reading this author-- I found the swearing to be a bit much and a distraction from the real story.

Love in Mid Air-- Book Review

A chance encounter with a stranger in an airplane sends Elyse Bearden into an emotional tailspin. Suddenly , Elyse is willing to risk everything :her safe but stale marriage, her seemingly perfect life in an affluent Southern suburb, and her position in the church. As Elyse embarks on a risky affair, her long time friend Kelly and the other women in their book club begin to question their own decisions about love, sex, marriage, and freedom.( Back of the Book)

Elyse- Main character- telling the story
Phil- Husband
Kelly- Best friend
Gerry- married

This book is about the story of the Elyse and the way her marriage ends. It shows the different seasons and the changes that occur with her friends and her.

It interesting that they discuss books in their book club that are relevant to them at the time like Madame Bovary or Charles Dickens.

Elyse does all that she can to to save the marriage and they go to counseling with their friend Jeff who is also their pastor. There was a interesting scene with Phil and Elyse and made me question more of Phil and his issues.

A great line: No body's dead.Who ever told you two that marriage was supposed to be easy ?

Still Midnight-- Book Review

Alex Morrow is a cop in Glasgow , Scotland. She isn't new to the police force- or to crime--but there is nothing familiar about the call she has just received.
On a still night in quiet suburb of the city, armed men have slipped from a van into a house, demanding a man who is not , and has never been , inside their home. In the confusion that ensues, one family member is shot and another kidnapped, the assailants demanding an impossible ransom. Later , the same van is discovered abandoned and burnt in the woods beside the highway. Is this all an amateur crime gone wrong or something more unexpected ?? ( Back of the book)
This is my first time reading this author and was new to her writing style.
This book has many point of Views and at times it was confusing .
Alex Morrow is partners with Bannerman. This story takes place over a couple days trying to solve this crime. On this day we meet her brother Danny , who doing illegal activities and he has an idea of who is good or bad.
There was some romance in this novel because this book had very little of it and who had the romance was surprising too.
The reader didn't even find out about Alex life until the middle of the novel and those were just breadcrumbs. I was shocked to find out about the news, but It did add to the character of Alex and her by the book and trying to succeed in all boys office. It was nice to meet her husband Brian and learn more of her home life.
I have no clue is this the middle or first of a Series about Alex Morrow. It does leave the door open for another book about her.
I did like the tension between Bannerman and Alex.

Abraham Lincoln- Vampire Hunter-- Book Review

Abe Lincoln lost his mother when he was nine years old. His mother died from an ailment called the "Milk sickness". Only later he did learn that his mother's deadly affliction was actually the work of a local vampire, seeking to collect on Abe's father's unfortunate debts. When the truth became known to Abraham Lincoln , he wrote in his journal. "Henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall be learned in all things -- a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose." That purpose ? The Elimination of all vampires( Back of the book)

I found this to be a fast read. I felt I actually learned something about Abraham Lincoln and what an clever way to get millions of people to read Abraham Lincoln's Journal.

The introduction by Seth was funny and set this book to fun and interesting. I would love to meet Henry and hear his stories but alas, Henry lets read all about Abe's history.

I could picture Abe Lincoln being a Vampire Hunter. It told of his hunts and people he has meet along the way to becoming the President of the United States. I loved the quotes and hearing about Abe's relationships with friends and wife. I could feel his loss of his son's.

I did try reading his other book of Pride & Prejudice and Zombies. I think I had a tough time with this book because I had already read the original version. I'll have to try reading it again.

Worst Case--- Book Review

This book comes out Feb 2010 and this is my Honest Review and thanks to Grand Central for the book.

The son of New York's wealthist families is snatched off the the street and held hostage. His parents can't save him , because this kidnapper isn't demanding money. Instead he quizzes his prisoner on the price others pay for his life of luxury. In this exam, wrong answers are fatal.

Detective Michael Bennett leads the investigation. With 10 kids of his own, he can't begin to understand what could lead someone to target anyone's children. Their reach extends all the way to the FBI, who send in their top abduction specialist , Agent Emily Parker. Bennett's love and life suddenly got more complicated. ( Goodreads.com)

I found this to be a fast read. It was nice to see Micheal Bennett again. Michel is a single dad to 10 kids and a detective. The kids ages go from 17-6.

There was some romance in the book. There was allot of action and some murders. Interesting bad guy who asks questions about a variety of topics to teenagers to see if they smart enough to survive.

Its great that Michael has help with his 10 kids, but it didn't seem realistic to me..and I have 5. He has a nanny and Father Seamus that help out. He even has time to help out with basketball team coaching..

False Convictions- Book Review

Casey hoped to have an open and shut case , a sure success for her first effort with the Freedom Project, the renowned Charity group dedicated to helping free wrongfully convicted prisoners. The freedom project not only gave Casey the chance to help innocent people, but its founder Robert Graham , offered Casey a one million dollar annual pledge to her legal clinic for taking on two cases a year.

Her first assignment is to revive the case of Dwayne Hubbard, and indigent black man serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of a college student twenty years ago. ( Back of the book)

First time reading this author. This was a good mystery and I loved all the twists and turns through out the book. I have never read anything by this author before and this character.

Casey-- lawyer
Jake- Television Reporter

This was a fast moving book with action and some romance. It kept me on my toes in this mystery book. The twists and turns and characters aren't always what they seem to be. I loved that Casey was trying to get a man out of jail.

But just as desire ignites between them, a twisted madman sets his sights on Elise. Hell-bent on possessing her for himself, this psychopath won't rest until he has his perfect woman.( Goodreads.com)
This was actually a decent romance book. There was just enough action and romance.
In this book the reader to get a glimpse into the mind of the killer. He has some serious issues. This book also centered around family and those issues there. There was alot of family interaction through out the story. This is a romantic suspense novel and this was one of the better ones I have read.

Ashley- victim, sister to Elise
Sam-- brother to Trent, owns his own grass cutting business

She fears she's about to fail an assignment-and lose her job-until she meets Tío Jaime, a grandfatherly hermit who might be crazy, or might be the best thing that ever happened to Sandy's career. I loved this book. It has a study guide of questions to think about the story.
I could relate to this character because I blog and like to go visit those celeb site and see all the gossip.
This was a good book on what we put on the Internet for all to see, and how real are online as opposed to real life. I also liked how it showed the online relationships and real relationships throughout the book. This book I would pass along to friends and family.

Among Thieves-- Book Review

In 1990, $300 million worth of paintings were stolen from Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in what remains one of the greatest unsolved art thefts of the twentieth century. Now, nearly twenty years later, the case threatens to break wide open. Members of Boston's criminal underground are turning up dead. But these are no ordinary murders. The M.O. of the attacks suggests the involvement of someone trained by the IRA. But when Scott Finn learns that one of his clients, Devon Malley, was part of the heist, he's quickly drawn into the crossfire, and into the renewed hunt for the missing artwork-a hunt that may cost Finn and his colleagues their lives.( Goodreads.com)

This is my first time reading this author. I loved where the story was set in Boston. I have been wanting to visit this lovely city for some time.

There are 4 main characters in this book...Finn, Koz, Lissa, and Sally. There are many point of views through the book/story.

There was alot of action at the very end and this book did keep me up reading late. There was alot of swearing though out the book --realistic to the characters but I didn't like it.

Roses-- Book Review

Spanning the 20th century, the story of Roses takes place in a small East Texas town against the backdrop of the powerful timber and cotton industries, industries controlled by the scions of the town's founding families. Cotton tycoon Mary Toliver and timber magnate Percy Warwick should have married but unwisely did not, and now must deal with the deceit, secrets, and tragedies of their choice and the loss of what might have been--not just for themselves but for their children, and children's children. With expert, unabashed, big-canvas storytelling, Roses covers a hundred years, three generations of Texans and the explosive combination of passion for work and longing for love. (Goodreads.com)

I was excited to read this book because of the name. I loved the Cover and what it means during the book and the history.

This story reminded me of The Thorn Birds ...just because of the long time frame.

I loved that English Roses of White and Red were used through out this story but in Texas.

This story is told in 4 parts and different points of view of Percy, Mary, Rachel, Matt, Ollie and Wyatt. I loved that characters will able to tell the past of what happened and tell their story.

Mary is a strong female character who knows what she loves and will do all that she can to keep it.

I loved the romance through out the book. I felt transported to location of the story.

I loved that there were Family Secrets, Family Curse, Lies, Money, Trust Issues, Roses, sacrifice , and forgiveness.

There was a note by the editor to take your time reading this book and enjoy it. I did just that with this book.

I can always tell a good book , if I stay late reading and I did just that with this book. I was even crying at the end of the book. I will gladly share this book with Friends and Family. Its that Good.

Kitty's House of Horrors-- Book Review

REALITY BITES Talk radio host and werewolf Kitty Norville has agreed to appear on TV's first all-supernatural reality show. She's expecting cheesy competitions and manufactured drama starring shapeshifters, vampires, and psychics. But what begins as a publicity stunt will turn into a fight for her life. The cast members, including Kitty, arrive at the remote mountain lodge where the show is set. As soon as filming starts, violence erupts and Kitty suspects that the show is a cover for a nefarious plot. Then the cameras stop rolling, cast members start dying, and Kitty realizes she and her monster housemates are ironically the ultimate prize in a very different game. Stranded with no power, no phones, and no way to know who can be trusted, she must find a way to defeat the evil closing in . . . before it kills them all. (Goodreads.com)

This is my first time reading this author or series or being in this universe.

I did like that Kitty was a strong female character who becomes a werewolf. I liked that she was married and loved her husband Ben , very much. I liked the cast of characters in this book from Magic to Vampires. I did think it was an interesting concept of having all supernatural in " Big Brother " house.

I wouldn't classify this as Chick lit or Fantasy-- It was an enjoyable read and loved that there was some mystery to the book. It was a light read.

True Blue-- Book Review

Mason "Mace" Perry was a firebrand cop on the D.C. police force until she was kidnapped and framed for a crime. She lost everything-her badge, her career, her freedom-and spent two years in prison. Now she's back on the outside and focused on one mission: to be a cop once more. Her only shot to be a true blue again is to solve a major case on her own, and prove she has the right to wear the uniform. But even with her police chief sister on her side, she has to work in the shadows: A vindictive U.S. attorney is looking for any reason to send Mace back behind bars. Then Roy Kingman enters her life. Roy is a young lawyer who aided the poor until he took a high-paying job at a law firm in Washington. Mace and Roy meet after he discovers the dead body of a female partner at the firm. As they investigate the death, they start uncovering surprising secrets from both the private and public world of the nation's capital. Soon, what began as a fairly routine homicide takes a terrifying and unexpected turn-into something complex, diabolical, and possibly lethal. (Goodreads.com)

I have read his other books--Absolute Power , and the Camel Club Series. I do enjoy his stories. I also did a review for First Family.

Mace gets out of jail and wants to prove her self and become a cop. She was put away for 2 years for a crime she didn't commit. Elizabeth is her sister and Chief Police in the District of Columbia.

This is a story about sisters and what we do help them out. The story had twists and turns and very little romance, and interesting topics about spies, money. I wasn't expecting the ending but it made sense to the story. I felt like I was Mase...and she was a busy bee trying to solve her case.

The story was fast moving and flowed. I think that there will more books with these characters or I hope. I didn't read this book too fast but I enjoyed the characters of the sisters relationship.

This is book that I recommend and would pass along to friends and family. I know mom,you can borrow this book. I'll put this aside for you.

This book comes out Oct 20,2009 and $27.99

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Locked In-- Book Review

Shot in the head by an unknown assailant, San Francisco private eye Sharon McCone finds herself trapped by locked-in syndrome: almost total paralysis but an alert, conscious mind. Since the late-night attack occurred at her agency's offices, the natural conclusion was that it was connected to one of the firm's cases. As Sharon lies in her hospital bed, furiously trying to break out of her body's prison and discover her attacker's identity, all the members of her agency fan out to find the reason why she was assaulted. Meanwhile, Sharon becomes a locked-in detective, evaluating the clues from her staff's separate investigations and discovering unsettling truths that could put her life in jeopardy again. As the case draws to a surprising and even shocking conclusion, Sharon's husband, Hy, must decide whether or not to surrender to his own violent past and exact fatal vengeance when the person responsible is identified (goodreads.com)

This book comes out 10/15/2009 and $ 24.99 in hardcover.

This is my first time reading a Sharon McCone Mystery. There are many different points of views told through out the story.

Sharon becomes locked in after a incident at the pier. I love that this story takes place in the bay area. I can relate to this because this is close to me and I have visited San Francisco numerous times. This book did take a while for me to get into, and I think that's to all the different characters I was meeting for the first time. It was great that the book recapped on previous books , so that a new person reading the book could understand what character has been through.

This was a good mystery and it all plots all came together . I liked that it was a team effort and that I grew to like the characters and have decided that I want to read more of Sharon McCone.

I give this 4 out 5 stars.
